Who is Ranger Randy?
Give a child some sticks, a patch of dirt, and a little freedom, and amazing things happen. I created this program to give kids the chance to explore, create, and learn in the kind of outdoor environment that sparks curiosity and builds lifelong confidence.
I grew up immersed in outdoor education through Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, where I developed a strong foundation in leadership, resilience, and respect for the natural world. During my time in scouting, I earned numerous recognitions, including induction into the Order of the Arrow (Brotherhood rank), an honor that reflects dedication to service, community, and outdoor leadership.
Through years of hands-on experience, I trained in a wide range of outdoor and life skills, including first aid, wilderness survival, emergency preparedness, land navigation, and outdoor ethics. My background also includes conservation work, ecology, plant and wildlife studies, and practical outdoor living skills such as cooking, backpacking, and exploration.
I have participated in and trained across diverse outdoor environments and activities, including watercraft, fishing, cycling, mountaineering, cave exploration, winter sports, and more—giving me a broad, well-rounded understanding of how to safely and confidently engage with the outdoors.
Beyond technical skills, I place a strong emphasis on Leave No Trace principles, environmental stewardship, and helping children build confidence, curiosity, and independence through real-world experiences.
As an adult, my passion for nature continues in everyday life. I study entomology and care for a variety of small animals, including millipedes, isopods, snails, and even a snake. I also enjoy gardening and maintaining houseplants, which keeps me constantly learning about ecosystems, life cycles, and the natural world on both a small and large scale.
You can call me Randy, Mr. Randy, or Ranger Randy.
